- We have an outline for the atlas section, with each section covering about four times the area covered in each Rukl plate.
- This is to be primarily a photographic atlas rather than an overall guide to the moon. It is possible there would be an accompanying guide to the atlas --- I think there are a number who are in favor of that. There is a map in the files section, showing the Rukl numbers. Our divisions can be found here or in message 99 at the Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lunar_Atlas/message/99
- There will be an introductory photo, covering the entire area, followed by pages which show the area under different lighting conditions so users can have a guide to help them throughout the lunar month. This is similar to what was done in Hatfield's Atlas, with the difference that new technology allows us to provide much better photos.
- Additionally there will be closeup photos as well as closeup drawings.
- There will be a short text description of each area being mapped, giving crater sizes etc as well as a brief guide in what to look for.
Yet to be agreed on but gaining some sense of consensus:
- To include an introductory section with the 28 days of the lunar cycle --- giving a description and recomendations on what to observe during each day. This would be similar to what is found in Cherington's book Exploring the Moon Through Binos and Small Scopes.
- Possibly a short intro to the moon, covering the progression from small round craters to complex terraced wall, central peaks and on up to impact basins and similar matters.
At this point, we need to be collecting photos. Even if they do not end up being used, in examining them, we will begin to agree on the level of quality needed as well as format needs.
